Compensation Fund Bursary 2026


Closing Date: The bursary is open throughout the academic year of 2026. Applicants are however encouraged to apply before 31 March 2026

The Compensation Fund Vocational Rehabilitation invites External Bursary Scheme. This Bursary invites unemployed COID beneficiaries with a permanent disablement (PWD), their dependents and the dependents of fatally injured employees to apply for the Compensation Fund External Bursary opportunity.

WHAT IS COID BENEFICIARY ?

COID (Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases) beneficiaries are individuals covered by South Africa’s COID Act, including workers injured or disabled by work-related incidents, and dependents (spouse, children) of fatally injured workers, who receive financial support or access educational opportunities like bursaries to improve employability.

What Does The Bursary Cover?

  1. Tuition fees
  2. Monthly Stipend
  3. Accommodation
  4. Prescribed Study Material

The award is renewable every year – for the duration of the study programme, depending on the availability of funds and academic performance.

Documents Needed For The Bursary:

  1. ID Copy Certified (NOT OLDER THAN 3MONTHS)
  2. Parent(s) or guardians’ Identity document (Certified)
  3. If either of your parents is deceased, please provide a (certified) copy of the death certificate
  4. Certified or official copy of the latest pay slip, three months’ bank statements for each parent or your legal guardian or proof of income letter in the form of SASSA grants.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Completed Application Form
  2. Proof of Acceptance at a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College, Community Education and Training (CET) College or Higher Education Institution (HEI).
  3. Applicants must be enrolled to study on a full-time basis
  4. Only under exceptional circumstances students with disabilities shall be allowed to study part-time
  5. Must be between the ages of 17-35years
  6. Certification and verification of physical disability by a Health Care Professional or
  7. Disability Support Office / WCL forms(Final Medical REPORT).

  1. Download and complete the respective bursary application form from the website OR www.labour.gov.za or visit your nearest Provincial Labour Centre for the application form.
  2. Unemployed COID beneficiaries with a permanent disability and their dependents are not restricted to the listed qualifications.
  3. COID beneficiaries with a permanent disability struggling to gain access to training institutions due to the level of education and other barriers can contact our offices for organised Vocational Skills Programmes/Qualifications.
